Under Construction — Now Complete…Enough To Share
Yes. Something is was under construction and that something is the outbuilding section that holds the chicken coop. I decided to take nearly 1/2 of the building space and create a hen sanctuary for winter and inclement weather. I just can’t imagine 5 hens cooped up in a 6 x 4 x 5 space for more hours of the day than not…for nearly 6 months out of the year. This new chicken-centric space, although without electricity at this time, is about 250 sq ft and is completely dry and weather proof, but, unfortunately, not completely predator proof. I need to work on the security. Once it’s done, I’ll upload before and after pictures. Soon. It’s done enough to show some pics!

Ruby likes it and that’s what matters! I’m with you on the whole “lock ‘em up, they’re just chickens” concept. Too creepy to have living creatures that are 100% dependent on me for their survival “cooped up” when they don’t have to be. Give them as much space as you can and you’ll get brownie points in heaven and have little sweet animals love you for it.
